One dollar out of five is given to military expenses. It costs $1 million per year to maintain a soldier in Afghanistan versus $10,000 per year to educate a college student. A gun is sold in the United States every 13 seconds. The tragically clumsy way in which humanity handles its own aggression generates massive destructiveness. We all realize that the solutions to this immense problem are difficult and extremely complex. But these shocking statistics suggest the importance of personal transformation as one of the many ways needed to deal with this critical situation. Sometimes we must succeed in turning our aggressive energy from destructive to constructive action.
